2026 “Chinese Bridge” NSW Preliminary Competition Successfully Held in Sydney

On 17 May 2026, the New South Wales Preliminary Round of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Secondary School and University Students was successfully held in Sydney, bringing together talented Chinese language learners from schools and universities across New South Wales.
2026年5月17日,“汉语桥”世界中学生、大学生中文比赛新州预选赛在悉尼成功举行。来自新南威尔士州各中学和高校的优秀中文学习者齐聚一堂,以中文展现青春风采,以文化促进交流。

The event was hosted by the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney and jointly organised by the Sydney HSK Centre and the Australia-China Education Group (ACEG).
本次活动由中华人民共和国驻悉尼总领事馆主办,悉尼汉语水平考试中心与**澳中教育集团(ACEG)**共同承办。
Among the distinguished guests were Consul-General Wang Yu, Consul (Counsellor Rank) for Education Affairs Lin Xiaoqing, and Strathfield Mayor Benjamin Cai. More than 100 guests, contestants, teachers, students, parents and judges attended the event.
中国驻悉尼总领事王愚、中国驻悉尼总领事馆教育参赞衔领事林晓青、Strathfield市市长 Benjamin Cai 等嘉宾出席活动。赛事评委、参赛学校师生、家长及嘉宾等百余人共同参与了此次活动。
A Celebration of Language and Culture
语言与文化的精彩交汇
Consul-General Wang Yu delivered the opening address, marking the official start of the competition.
开幕式上,王愚总领事发表致辞,为本届比赛正式拉开序幕。
The competition featured two divisions — secondary school students and university students — and assessed participants across three key components: a written test on Chinese culture and general knowledge about China, a themed speech in Chinese, and a Chinese cultural talent performance.
本次比赛设中学生组和大学生组两个组别,通过中国国情与文化知识笔试、中文主题演讲和中华才艺展示三个环节,全面考察参赛选手的中文语言能力、文化素养及综合表现。
Together, these activities gave contestants the opportunity to demonstrate not only their Chinese language proficiency, but also their understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture.
通过多元化的比赛形式,选手们不仅展现了扎实的中文语言能力,也充分表达了对中华文化的理解与热爱。
Chinese Language in Action

During the speech competition, contestants delivered engaging presentations in fluent and natural Chinese, sharing their experiences of learning the language and reflecting on what Chinese language and culture meant to them.
在主题演讲环节,参赛选手以流利自然的中文展开精彩演讲,分享学习中文的经历与感悟,并表达自己对中华语言文化的认识与理解。
The cultural talent performances brought even more energy to the stage. Participants showcased a diverse range of talents, including singing, dancing, calligraphy, instrumental music, poetry recitation and tea ceremony.
中华才艺展示环节更是精彩纷呈。选手们通过歌曲、舞蹈、书法、器乐、诗歌朗诵和茶艺等丰富多彩的形式,展现各自对中华文化的学习成果与独特体悟。
Each performance reflected the students’ enthusiasm for Chinese culture and the dedication they had put into their learning, earning warm applause from both the judges and the audience.
每一场表演都凝聚着选手们对中华文化的热情与长期学习的投入,精彩的表现赢得了现场评委和观众的热烈掌声。

After an exciting competition, two contestants were awarded First Prize in their respective divisions.

Outstanding contestants will have the opportunity to travel to China to participate in the global finals or experience the international competition in person.

The “Chinese Bridge” competition is more than a test of language proficiency. It provides young people with an opportunity to connect through language, discover another culture and build friendships across borders.

Through events like the “Chinese Bridge”, the Sydney HSK Centre and Australia-China Education Group are proud to support Chinese language education in Australia and create more opportunities for students to engage with Chinese language and culture.
